OPPOSE AB-101 Pupil instruction: high school graduation requirements: ethnic studies. (2021-2022)

Biblical Worldview – Education / Culture 4.1.21

URGE the California Assembly Education Committee to Reject the Radical AB-101

This bill will mandate controversial Ethnic Studies for the public high school students in California and will eventually be required for younger grade students. The proposed ethnic studies promote victimhood, divisiveness, self-reproach, socialism, and radical political agenda.

Background: 1st Hearing.

Introduced by Assembly Member Medina (D-Ca) & other Democrat members as following: (Principal coauthors: Assembly Members Cristina Garcia, Low, Ramos, and Weber) (Principal coauthor: Senator Durazo)

The 1st hearing from the Education Committee on March 18th passed by 11-0 although there were many more oppositions presented in the hearing. During the meeting, there was a chanting by the Assemblyman James Ramos(D-Ca) to demonstrate how to respect and worship the “earth mother.”

The 2nd Hearing coming up – This Wednesday, April 7, 2021.

We need all the prayers and people of faith to take an action.

We, as an organization will attend the 2nd hearing to express our opposition once again along with our partner organizations; we have a team working hard to read the line by line on the text bill of AB101 that is close to 900 pages. There has been close to 300 changes on this bill however, it is still controversial in many aspects.

REASONS TO OPPOSE Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum Excerpts

(By Real Impact & California for Equal Rights Foundation)

– This model curriculum is a step toward rectifying omission of the experiences and cultures of communities within California. Ethnic studies courses address institutionalized systems of advantage, and address the causes of racism and other forms of bigotry including, but not limited to, anti-Blackness, anti-Indigeneity, xenophobia, antisemitism, and Islamophobia within our culture and governmental policies.

– Engage a range of disciplines beyond traditional history and social sciences, including but not limited to… gender and sexuality studies, etc.

– Promote critical thinking and rigorous analysis of history, systems of oppression, and the status quo…

– This section includes several ethnic studies-oriented chants, proverbs, and affirmations. [e.g., …consciousness must be willing to be proactive, not just thinkin’ and talkin’ but makin’ things happen, with agency, resiliency, & a revolutionary spirit that’s positive, progressive, creative, native…]

– Instituting ethnic studies through an unchanged framework of critical pedagogy based on critical lenses of imperialism, anti-capitalism and anti-racism is divisive, inflammatory and discriminatory.

– Promoting ethnic studies with the controversial and ideological ESMC as a key pedagogical source could lead to legal violations of California’s constitutional guarantee of equal treatment (Article I Section 31(a)), as well as Articles 3 & 4 of the Education Code.

– Such a mandate would incur extra tax burdens on all Californians, at a time when public resources should be deployed more wisely to tackle persistent performance gaps in public education and pandemic-related learning loss that disproportionately hurt disadvantaged students.
